On visiting a chiropractor a consultation and a full chiropractic, orthopaedic and neurological examination will be performed. Areas seemingly unrelated to the region of symptoms may also be examined. With some patients x-rays may be taken, laboratory and other diagnostic tests performed to help accurately diagnose the problem. If chiropractic care is considered appropriate, a management programme of care over a period of time will be recommended.

Advice will be given about ongoing care for the maintenance of spinal health and prevention of future problems. This could include specific exercises, postural recommendations and nutritional advice. Ultimately it is the patient’s choice how they use chiropractic services, which can be for pain relief, or as part of a healthy lifestyle to assist optimal health. Since daily stresses can accumulate over time, chiropractors generally recommend a check-up on a periodic basis. This will depend upon each patient’s specific problems and lifestyle factors.
